In Asian countries apparently they don't even have a word for hot flashes apparently. Women don't go through this big huge horrible menopause transition and so research is suggesting that it's because their diet is high in soy. It's also different from the American diet in a lot of other ways right. They are typically more active. They are trimmer because they don't eat chips and candy and cookies and doughnuts and diet coke and all that. Their diet is different from ours in a lot of ways and their life styles is different from ours but one thing that they do a lot more than most American women is eat more soy. I have actually have had clients started eating those soy bars and they are like the power bar or a nutrition bar. They have 150 mg of soy isoflavone something and almost got the hot flashes go away. When I stopped eating these soy bars every day, my hot flashes came back. Of course, there are supplements in the market too. I think that soy provides whether you are eating soy beans, soy sausage or taking a soy supplement, I prefer to get it from the food in soy beans but you may need a larger amount than you can get in serving or two if you are really having symptoms. For female issues, there are some benefits with PMS and menopausal symptoms. Soy is a great source of protein and I encourage people to get protein not just from animal sources. We don't really need to eat all that animal stuff. It's good to get some beans and soy is a bean and it's good source. For some people soy is an issue apparently. There is a type of breast cancer that is encouraged to grow by an increase in soy intake. For women whose breast cancer is related to estrogen intake, they are supposed to stay away from soy.
And again I always caution people from going Oh! my god this is the magic thing soy. If you have menopausal issues and you want to try supplementing with soy, that's something you want to do on your own. I am not a doctor.
