Sports and Recreation in Orlando. Sports and recreation opportunities in Orlando include watching the Orlando Magic basketball team, the Citrus Bowl, and seeing the Disney Wide World of Sports facility.
We have a number of professional, semi-professional, and minor league sports teams as well as a number of college teams. Our National Basketball Association team is The Orlando Magic. They start in October and run through April, and then of course the post-season playoffs start after that. Believe it or not, we actually sell tickets to Magic Games on our website.
We also have spring training here in Florida. Florida is a huge state for all the baseball teams. There are probably three or four teams that do their spring trainings here. Training starts in the March time frame before the actual season starts in April.
There are number of colleges and college sports events that are held here in Orlando including the Citrus Bowl. There are two major ball games that are played here right around the Christmas and New Year's time frame, so if you're thinking about traveling that time of year, you'll definitely want to take a look at those opportunities on our calendar of events page. Teams and tickets are usually posted in the late November time frame.
In terms of participation sports, we offer everything from golf to tennis to soccer. We are one of the top golf destinations in the world because we have over 160 golf courses within 45 minutes of downtown. There are other amateur sports played here all throughout the year, because the weather is so nice. Disney has the Wide World of Sports facility that hosts a lot of those types of events. We also have a training center for tri-athletes here in central Florida, so those events are often held here as well. Our website has a whole section that deals with recreational activities.
