A storm door is an additional door placed on an entry way. Normally, the purpose of the door is to provide additional protection from the elements. It attaches to a standard prime door unit. This is an additional barrier. The storm door traditionally swings to the outside whereas your prime door swings into the home. Storm doors keep in the heat or cold. Depending on the location of where you live, the storm door can act as an insulator to keep heat or cold in your home. Then, more recently it's become more of a decorative element. It is a new way to upgrade any entry. The options of storm doors can really add to the overall appearance of the house. Another benefit is the added ventilation. You can install storm doors into almost anywhere. It would really apply to any opening. There are a lot of different applications. It serves a lot of purposes. Storm doors can be used on front doors, back doors, and side doors. They would typically not be used for a garage door. They are made for a 36 inch type opening. If you have that type of a door in your garage, then you could use a storm door in there as well.
