Sleep apnea's primary symptom is the stoppage of breathing. So if you have a sleep partner, that person would watch you attempt to breath but not actually move any air. Signs and symptoms are often present just prior to a true apneic event. If you do have sleep apnea you don't get a good night sleep because throughout the night you are being awaken by your brain running out of oxygen. So it wakes you up and tries to keep your oxygen level at a reasonable level. Most of the people who have sleep apnea will often not know that they have been awakened multiple times. So it's not waking up like full consciousness. It is just waking up from a deeper level of sleep to a more shallow level of sleep. So in the morning when they wake up they feel unrefreshed. They usually feel tired and sometimes they will have a bit of headache. Sometimes they will have some jaw or facial pain from the jaw being thrust forward.
