A lot of people don't realize it, but Tallahassee is the state capital. Second to being the capital, Tallahassee is probably most recognizable for Florida State University's football team and marching band. Both are very successful. The band is world renowned.
We have the Tallahassee Regional Airport with service from Delta and US Air, and we are also located on Interstate Highway 10 which makes us a large drive market. There's no problem getting to Tallahassee even though we are actually very isolated. We are in the middle of a national forest. We don't have theme parks or high rises. We are "Old Florida" and alive with trees and rolling hills. We have a slower paced life. We have a lot of southern charm with sweet tea and live oak tree canopied roads. Live oaks are much harder than oaks that most are familiar with. They maintain their own weight and their limbs go out horizontally for long distances without breaking off. It creates a huge canopy. Back when there were dirt roads and horse drawn carriages, they realized the temperature was about 25 degrees hotter in the sun, so they planted these trees along those initial arteries which are now tiny 2-lane paved roads. You can drive under these beautiful trees in the shade for miles on end. It's a neat feature to the area.
