Overview
About Teens on NutriSystemNutrisystem is not just a weight loss program for adults. Teens can use it too under the guidance of their parents. Nutrisystem is a great option for teenagers because there is no cooking or measuring involved. The teen just takes out their meal, heats it up in the microwave, and eats it. Even if a parent was not home at meal time, the teenager could follow the plan.
Size
The Nutrisystem weight loss plan is shipped in one large box that contains 112 items. The teenager should check to make sure that there are 28 breakfast items, 28 lunch items, 28 dinner items and 28 snacks. Nutrisystem's month is based on 28 days, so you will be a few days short of a month's worth of food.
Types
Teens have a choice when it comes to the Nutrisystem meal plans. First, they should choose from one of 3 types of Nutrisystem meal plans based on their gender. In other words, there are 3 types for men and 3 types for women. Next, they should decide whether they need a basic meal plan, a vegetarian meal plan or a diabetic meal plan (for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes).
Costs
Nutrisystem offers an auto-delivery service. With this service, as of 2009, the food will cost $299.95 plus free shipping each month. If you opt for just 1 month to try the system, it costs $333.28 plus $16 in shipping and handling charges. If you want to order the items individually, they run from $1.75 (breakfast bars) to $6.00 (dinner meals) each. Shipping and handling costs are added to the a la carte items.
Considerations
There are a few things a teenager should discuss with their parents before they purchase Nutrisystem. The first is the cost. In addition to the $300 per month for the Nutrisystem meals (as of 2009), the parent will need to buy other grocery items. Fruits, vegetables, salad items and dairy servings are recommended. Nutrisystem will send a daily nutritional tracker that includes the meals and added grocery items that your teen should eat each day. Your teen can then place that tracker on your refrigerator and check each item off as they eat it. Second, Nutrisystem expects anyone who is following their program to exercise. They will send an Exercise DVD with Leslie Sansone, which is a 2-mile walk that anyone can do. Your teen can opt to do this workout video at home or join a gym. Finally, Nutrisystem advises not lose more than 2 pounds per week. Any more than that isn't healthy, so make sure that your teen doesn't expect to lose 10 pounds the first week. This is a long-term commitment.
Options
If a teen is considering Nutrisystem but can't invest $300 to find out if they like it, there are 2 other options. First, order items a la carte from the Nutrisystem website. This option is not widely advertised, but it is available at the bottom of the website. Then pick and choose a few items to try. The other option is to order food from eBay, where there are many people selling their shipments for a discounted price. This is perfectly safe because all of the meals are vacuum-sealed and don't need to be refrigerated.
Teen Foods
Nutrisystem has some foods that teens are sure to love. First, the pizza is surprisingly delicious, and what teen doesn't love pizza? Second, Nutrisystem has mac and cheese. It's simple and something that almost all teens enjoy. Third, Nutrisystem has a chocolate peanut butter bar that can be eaten for lunch or as a snack. It does not taste like diet food at all, so teens will feel like they are eating a Hershey bar. Fourth, Nutrisystem makes an apple strudel scone that is perfect for teens to eat on their way to school. Finally, teens will enjoy the pancakes which come in plain or blueberry. Teens can make 1 big pancake or 2 small pancakes with the batter that is provided by Nutrisystem.
