It's tough to tell. Looking and the way the clothes fit are indicators. The best way is to take a quick fatty composition test with a skin fold test and it doesn't need to be elaborate. A trainer that knows what they are doing will be able to do one within a few minutes. Gym guidelines for men put them between 10-13% body fat and 10-15% body fat around their rib. They are pretty healthy when it is between 18-24% and 18-22%. So both genders, if they get around 25-30% body fat, would be classified as overweight, but that's the way that you are going to tell. That's not so much by scale weight.


And the reason why I say that is because if somebody works out, puts on some muscle mass, the scale may say that they are heavier than what the average person will be. But if the body fat percentage is lower they could actually be in really good shape. So that's what I would look at it is the body fat composition.
