I think the easiest way to test ph is to go out and take samples throughout the yard. You may want to take four to five samples, put them in a bucket and mix them together. This will give you an overall range and then you can send it to your local cooperative extension service. I think you could just drop it off at your local nursery and they will send it to the extension service. There are also test kits on the market. Most of them are a probe with a meter so that you can just stick the probe in the soil and it will give you a pretty close reading. There are also kits that allow you to mix the samples yourself. They come with little pellets that you mix in the water and add to your soil samples and it gives you a color range. The probe is probably a little more accurate. They are usually about $30.
