There is the Yale Repertory Theater and the Shubert Theater. The Yale Rep has plays put on by students, faculties and then they get guest performers coming in. It has its own style; they usually have more productions by "up and coming" play writes. So it's right in the history of downtown New Haven. And the Shubert Theater is coined as the birthplace of the nations' greatest hits because it's where Rogers and Hammerstein got their start. In fact there is a restaurant next door to it called Hot Tomatoes and Hot Tomatoes is in the old hotel where Rogers and Hammerstein would stay when they came to New Haven. They wrote the lyrics for "Oklahoma" and "My Fair Lady" and many of their other musicals. Then they would perform them at the Schubert Theater and from there they were always successful and they would go on to New York. So this is how the Shubert really got its name. Rogers and Hammerstein really loved to come there for they said it just was inspiring for them. So into that there are also two cabaret theaters; one in the summer and one in the winter. And that's also run by the Yale Rep people. You can search these events on our website by different interests and obviously by dates as well. In addition to that, there are a lot of exciting events that happen. Tonight we are heading to the kickoff event for Film Fest New Haven, which is in its 10th year of weekend long festivals of films by independent student directors. In early October, there are Open Studios which is where artists open their studios to the general public to exhibit their work and exhibit where they work. That happens throughout the city; in fact, artists that are outside of the city limits are also given the opportunities to sort of setup temporary studios in town.
