There are really a wide variety of paddle strokes for different purposes but the most common and basic ones are the forward stroke, the reverse stroke, the sweep stroke which turns the boat, the draw stroke which is a correction stroke, the pry stroke, and then the J-stroke which is a common stroke that's used by solo paddlers.
