Are There Eating Disorder Cases That Never Seek Treatment?

Are there eating disorder cases that never seek treatment? Yes, there are a lot of people who suffer from eating disorders that never seek treatment. Yes. We don't have a lot of statistics on that but I...

Yes. We don't have a lot of statistics on that but I would say when I walk through a mall in South Florida, I don't see a lot of massively under weight or anorectic people over the age of 50. The reason is they probably have died. You don't see people that are massively overweight much older than 50 because they have died. Of course under the death certificate you are not reading eating disorder. That being said, there are probably lots of people who live with these addictions throughout their life without seeking treatment. They might have a short period of time where it is less prominent than others, but always kind of being manageable. There are lots of alcoholics that are physicians, attorneys, senators who never go to treatment, but have struggled life long with their abusing alcohol. They think about all the overweight folks in America, let's say half of those have an eating disorder or are compulsive overeaters. Most will attempt diet or do things on their own, but it is usually a life long problem and untreated the relapse rate is about 98%. So, a lot of people don't seek treatment.
