Are There Any Other Dangers Involved With Geothermal Systems?

Are there any other dangers involved with geothermal systems? The older units use the refrigerant and that is the working fluid that changes state. That is also used in refrigerators, but the older heat pumps used Freon based refrigerants, and of course we know that is a greenhouse "no-no.".

I would not say dangers. But, the older units use the refrigerant and that is the working fluid that changes state. And that is also used in refrigerators, but the older heat pumps used Freon based refrigerants, and of course we know that is a greenhouse "no-no." This has the potential to contribute to greenhouse gases. Within the last few years, there are new refrigerants now that are being used in the heat pumps that do not have the ozone depleting cooling or chlorofluorocarbon in them. So, other than that, there is not really any other danger. In fact, it's less dangerous because there is no fossil fuel being and there is no combustion in these things.
