St. Augustine is a well known surfing destination particularly in the winter months. In fact, they hold several major east coast surfing championships here. There is also skim boarding which is as a kind of like surfing but it takes place right at the edge of the surf. In fact they had the national championships here just a couple of months ago. There are lots of boating activities; parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking, ocean kayaking as well as backwater kayaking that you can rent. This is also a good location for fishing both from shore and there are offshore fishing trips available here. But a lot of people just like the fish directly from the beach and there is also a fishing pier here that the county operates which is very popular. There are two or three rental shops for Jet-Skis but there are numerous places that rent surfboards. There are even places where you can rent entire fishing equipment; rod, the tackle and everything. It's not like you have to bring it with you. There is also a shop that just opened recently here and that has virtually everything you could imagine that you would ever want at the beach ranging from beach umbrellas to video monitoring equipment for children. It would be hard to come here and think you wish you had brought something because it's all here. You can rent golf clubs as well.
