Things to do for kids and children in virginia beach

This travel guide will help you enjoy your family vacation at Virginia Beach with a list of top tourist attractions and things to do for kids and children.

Virginia Beach is a magical place for children. They can escape out to sea in the waves, build majestic sand castles and explore the wonderful museums and places around. With so many wonderful things to explore, you may feel overwhelmed when deciding what to do in Virginia Beach. This guide will help you in your decisions.

Swimming - If you are going to go to the beach you have to go swimming. It is better to go earlier in the summer because many times Virginia Beach can have a lot jellyfish in the ocean. Many times you can see dolphins swimming gin the water. While you are at the beach you can build sand castles and explore the board walk. The board walk was recently renovated, so it is more accessible and pleasurable to look at.

Hiking - You can also go hiking in Virginia Beach. Backbay Natural Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to hike with children. This is a 8,000 acre fresh water refuge. They can enjoy seeing wildlife and the natural beauty of the area. First Landing State Park is a park where the 100 English settlers landed and had the first elected government. The park has many natural habitats and historical aspects to explore.

Fishing - Another popular activity for families is fishing. There are many marina and piers to fish off of at the beach. Seagulls Pier is one I have find memories of. You can see people catching all kinds of fish, eels, sharks and the like. Of course if your children are too young they may not enjoy fishing.

Museums - There are many museums in the area. On of my favorites for child is outside of Virginia Beach in Portsmouth. It is the Children's Museum of Virginia. They have a wonderful train collection set up and running. The train sets are valued at over one million dollars. In addition to the trains, they have rock walls, slides, and a variety of different areas for children to explore. Your children can pretend to drive a bus and a fire truck, go to the grocery store and much more. It is definitely worth the trip to Portsmouth.

Zoos/Animals - Your child may also enjoy going to the petting zoos and aquariums in the area. There is the Hunt Club Farm Petting Zoo. Your children can enjoy getting close up to many animals while petting and feeding them. You can feed chickens or cows. In addition there is the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. The aquarium recently opened a Harbor Seal attraction where you learn about these magnificent animals.

Amusement Parks - Finally, there are several amusement type parks and activities. Of course Bush Gardens is not that far away, but there are many smaller parks closer. Motorworld is located in Virginia Beach. They have go-carts, miniature golf courses, bumper boats and a sky coaster. You children will enjoy hours of fun here. In addition there is Ocean Breeze Waterpark. Here you children can enjoy water rides, slides and have a great time cooling off in a pool. There are tubes, falls and many rides for kids of all ages.

Whatever you do at Virginia Beach you children are sure to have a wonderful time. Even if you are just laying on the beach you children will enjoy building a sand castle or swimming in the ocean. This guide will help your children have a great time away from the beach as well.
