Wild Waters is a water park, an amusement water park, right next door to world famous Silver Springs.
Silver Springs is a natural spring that produces 55 million gallons of water an hour. It's also where the Tarzan movies were filmed. There is a glass bottom boat ride and a jungle cruise and it's just a naturally beautiful place. They do bottle the water to sell.
Ocala National Forest takes up a big portion of our county. We are the fifth largest county in the state land wise. The national forest is on our eastern border and offers all sorts of recreational opportunities. People come from all over the United States to fish and to hunt deer and wild game. There are several lakes and natural springs in the area.
We have a beautiful historic district near the downtown area. There is a lot of history and some very beautiful Victorian homes.
There is hiking, biking, and camping in the National Forest.
We have one bed-and-breakfast that has been written up in several magazines, Seven Sisters. It's probably one of the most beautiful in the southeast. It's in a Victorian mansion and is actually two houses right next to each other.
As far as the major chains we have the Hilton, Hampton, Fairfield, Country Inn and Suites, and Marriott.
There are some wonderful cabins in the national forest.
During Christmas, we have a wonderful lighting ceremony downtown and an ice skating rink. It's a real fairyland.
We have the Calcetic Theatre, which has plays.
We have some wonderful restaurants on the downtown square. Our downtown square is a typical old-fashioned downtown square with a gazebo and every Friday night there is live music.
We also have a performing ballet and a symphony orchestra.
