Tin Can Crafts: Toys

Here's a great way to recycle those old tin cans floating around the house. This craft is great for entertaining small children.

Have you ever had a day when it seemed like your children were always under foot? Or a day when it seemed like they bugged you all day long for no apparent reasons at all? Want to know what I discovered? Give them something constructive to do. Remember all of those home made toys you had when you were little? Here are a few ideas that I re-discovered using the cans from my canned goods.

Telephone Cans

Items Needed:

2 Tin Cans

1 long and sturdy rope string

Hammer

1 Nail

Directions:

Take each can and using Hammer and Nail, punch hole in the center bottom of both cans.

Once that has been done, take rope strong and push it through the hole on one of the cans. Tie a knot on t he inside of the can so that the string will not come out.

Take the other end of the string and repeat procedure. Be sure to tie the knot on the inside of the can.

Give a can to each child and have it sit far apart or, if string is, long enough, in separate rooms.

Have one child talk into the can, while the other child listens with their can.

Then have them repeat what they think the other one said.

This game can go on for hours.

Walkers

Items Needed:

2 tin cans

2 Rope String

Hammer

Nail

Directions:

Take hammer and nail, and nail a hole on each side of the tin cans.

Then take rope string and thread through holes of each can. Once threaded through, tie a knot in each string, so that the when you pick string up, can is dangling from it.

Give cans to child. Have them stand on top of cans. Give them the strings. Have them lift the string and can up and try to walk with them,

You might want child to do this outside or in a room where they will not get hurt.

This craft will bring them hours of fun.
