First of all, don't judge yourself. Don't look at other people and say "all those people are running so much faster, and so much quicker than I am." When you are beginning to run, first of all, you have to have a goal. Are you running to train for competitive running? Do you want to compete in a 5K or 10K, or marathon or are you just running as a form of stress relief, relaxation, or for conditioning? Once you have made that decision, that will determine how you train. If you are, for instance, training simply as a hobby for yourself to get rid of stress and stuff like that, you might want to have a partner with you. When I ran, I found that it was a great time for meditation for me just to be on the road. For a person who has never run before, there is a threshold to reach called "the second wind." You might be running along and you are just about to quit and then all of a sudden you get this rush of energy and then it seems like you can go on forever. That "second wind" is what will allow a person to run long distances.
