Once you've decided to make North Carolina your new home, the best place to start your move is on your home computer. Look up, and contact the Chamber of Commerce for the area/areas you are considering. They can provide you with maps and up to the minute information on business, taxes, real estate, education and quality of living for that region.

Finding the web site for the local newspaper is also a good idea. You can read most of the top stories and learn quite a bit about the pros and cons of the area, including job availability, quality of education, crime rates and what the people of that area find most important on a day to day basis. Reading the editorial letters can give you a sense of the flavor of the community.

You can also look for a new home on your computer. Most real estate agencies have current market listings online that provide clear and concise information about the houses, condominiums and apartments that they have available, complete with pictures of every room and the property. If there is a virtual tour available, it is almost as good as physically being there.

When you see something you like, simply contact the listed agent and they will be happy to speak with you about that listing and any others they have of similar quality. Most agents will offer to work with you, one on one, to assist you with all aspects of your move, including getting you set up with a mortgage company.

It is recommended that you line up a few places that interest you and then take a road trip to the area. While there, drive around through the nearby neighborhoods. Check out the shopping facilities and schools along with the nearest hospitals and libraries. Spend a few days in the area to be sure you like it enough to want to move there.

When you've made your decision and are ready to relocate, it is time to rent a truck or call in a moving company to transport your belongings to your new home.

Once you arrive be on the look out for the welcome woman, she does exist and will probably be the first person you meet. She will come bringing goodies, local coupons and tons of informational brochures to help you get settled into your new community.
