Do not use latex or acrylic paints. I guarantee they will not last over a year and a half without using the oil based enamel. Not to give endorsement, but I have used Sherwin William's products for a number of years. I have used their classic 99 oil-base enamel. I have never had a complaint in that number of years on that material and I find it to be the hardest enamel of all the brands that are offered right now. If you are going to try to paint it at home, be sure and get a natural bristle brush - not nylon because it will look like you used a nylon brush. It doesn't flow off the brush. A brush is like an old ink pen. You dip it in the ink and then you start writing. The ink flows off into the pen while you are writing and at some point you have to stop and reload your pen. A brush is the same way; you can dip it into the paint and when you start painting it is flowing off to the end. A natural bristle brush lets the paint flow off evenly and the old nylon brush is just good for latex.
