Saving time in a day. Here are some ways to trim the overall cooking time down using some great kitchen shortcuts!
No time for cooking a full-fledged meal, but you don't want to use the microwave to cook your family dinners? There IS a solution. Here are some ways to trim the overall cooking time down using some great kitchen shortcuts!
Wash Vegetables Quickly
To save time washing vegetables take out a large bowl and fill it with warm water. Immerse the vegetables in the bowl; when they are lifted out, they'll leave the dirt residue behind.
Dressing Salads
Want to add your favorite dressing to a tossed salad? Pour the dressing into the BOTTOM of the salad bowl before you prepare the salad. As you add the salad, toss it with the dressing.
Peel Garlic Quickly
To peel garlic more quickly, press the clove with the side of the knife and the paper skin should peel away easily.
Quickie Rice
Cook your rice like you would any pasta, it saves time! Simply put the rice in a large pot of boiling water, stirring occasionally. This should take about 10 minutes. When you're done boiling it, drain and add your favorite ingredients like butter, oil, or sauce.
Swift sautéing and Stir-Frying
When sautéing or stir frying, keep a hot burner and a low burner on at the same time, and move your pot or pan back and forth between them. You won't have to wait for the burners to cool or heat up!
Chopping Sense
Use a few smaller chopping boards when cooking so you can carry them to the stove and use them to add ingredients. You won't have to keep washing them when changing food types!
Egg Cracking
Don't crack and peel boiled eggs by hitting them on the side of a pan. Use a spoon to crack a ring around the egg, and then peel the rest off easily.
Pasta Time Savers
When boiling pasta for dinner, go ahead and cook the whole box. Pasta stays good for about a week in the refrigerator, and you can save the rest for a side dish in a future meal! Simply put the leftovers aside, and heat it with the sauce next time!
