Well, you always want to build up to the maximum time. Most people at our stores are very good about that. We try to educate our clients about tanning. "Well, I always burn first and then I tan." Well, that's the wrong way to tan, if you don't want to burn, you want to stay away from overexposing. That's the wrong thing to do to your skin.


All of our tanning beds are very short, anyway. I mean even if somebody started out doing four minutes and kept doing four minutes but coming every other day, you are going to get better color, and it's going to be better for your skin than going and tanning ten minutes and then not coming back for a week. The only way that you build color is to come consistently when you trying to build a base tan. So the best way to do it is to come at least every other day or at least three times a week in order to build your color. Once you build the color to the point where you are happy with your base tan, you can go down to maintenance sessions, which could be once a week, depending on how much color you want to keep.




Lotion is huge; if you don't use lotion when you are tanning in the beds, you are not going to achieve your base tan itself. You are not going to retain it, as long as you skin is dry on the tanning bed.

You need to make sure when you are receiving the light that you have a tanning lotion on your skin, because you want to try to get the most out of your tanning session. You are paying anywhere from 24 dollars for a single session in a bed. You want to get the most out of that color and you want it to last as long as possible, so that you don't have to come in as much. So if you spend the least amount of time tanning with the least amount of reddening that is the key to tanning. Just do not overexpose and spend less time tanning. So that's huge. That's why we try to encourage, going to tanning salons with high performance equipment, lower levels of UVB, a lot more efficient tanning times.
