Tooth hypersensitivity is when a person's teeth are sensitive to cold items, and this occurs from the process of bleaching. It can have effects on the nerve if it is applied too long or if the nerve is superficial (near the surface). The hypersensitive feeling is when your teeth respond to the overall treatment. This feeling will go away relatively quickly. There is not way to tell if someone will experience these side effects, though we do not bleach teeth on younger patients. We do require that a patient is over the age of 18, and we warn younger patients that they may experience some discomfort. If any side effects occur, we tell our patients to stop using the product.
