An implant is a replacement for a tooth. It is typically made of titanium and is placed in your bone where the tooth groove would be. It's actually in your bone, and it's stable, secured, and permanent. It's wonderful. Each implant will replace one tooth. We even have implant bridges to hold on to dentures.

Implants are wonderful. The major advantage is that if you lose a tooth, you don't have to try to replace it with something that's removable. Implants feel like your natural teeth, so and you can chew with them like you would your natural teeth. You can chew better with implants than you can without.

They are more expensive than a single crown if you are missing a tooth. If you are missing several teeth, you are typically going to get a bridge. A whole bridge frequently involves 2 or 3 teeth. It is not a huge difference in cost. It's important to encourage your employer to ask your dental insurance company to cover implants. Many of them do not and then the cost becomes quite dramatic when you look at one procedure which is covered and one that is not. The implants are definitely the way to go if you are missing teeth these days.
