Rochester, New York has tourist attractions for every taste.
Tourist attractions and sightseeing in Rochester includes visiting a zoo, spending time in an amusement park or just brushing up on local history.
Seneca Park Zoo displays a wide diversity of animals all displayed in habitats best suited to them and includes educational programs centered on the animals. Another tourist attraction here is Seabreeze Park. Seabreeze Park is a water park and an amusement park all in one location. Here the tourist will find amusement park rides, games, souvenir shops and food courts. Seneca Park Zoo and Seabreeze Park are both attractions that should be considered especially if some of the tourists are children.
Historic locations can also be found in this area if the tourist is interested in that type of place. Woodside Mansion, Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse and Susan B. Anthony House, are all excellent locations for learning more about history, especially history of the area. Other entertainment, from boat tours to garden tours are available at Sam Patch Tour Boat, Ellwanger Garden of Landmark Society, Force Seven Charters, Corn hill Waterfront and Navigation Foundation.
Rochester also offers many outdoor activities such as Rock Ventures, an indoor rock climbing facility and Frontier Field, a baseball field that is home to the Redwings, a Triple A baseball club. If golf is the sport of choice, Rochester has that to offer also. Lakeshore Country club, an eighteen-hole course with a par 70-73 is the oldest, having been established in 1932. Other golf courses in Rochester are Braemer Golf Course, Genesee Valley Golf Course and Latta Lea Golf Course. One other outdoor activity available in Rochester is Lake Ontario, which offers fishing and sightseeing from one's own boat or from a rented boat.
Rochester also has its share of Museums and Galleries. Strong Museum offers hands-on history lessons to the visitor; Centre at High Falls is another museum that displays the history of Rochester. George Eastman House, located in Rochester's Historic East Avenue, was once the estate of Eastman Kodak Company founder, George Eastman. This estate focuses on the history of photography and motion pictures. Memorial Art Gallery displays fifty centuries of art while Rochester Museum and Science Center's displays are historical, anthropological or part of the natural sciences. Oxford Gallery, another art gallery, offers several thousand mediums of art from some sixty artists. Stone Tolan House Museum displays activities and lifestyles from the frontiers times in the Rochester area and Campbell Whittlesey Museum, is a study in Greek revival architecture in America. Each of these museums and galleries offer the tourist a peek into the culture and history of Rochester although each one is a little different.
