Sports are a big thing here. Manchester, which is the largest city in the state and about 15 minutes to the south, has a professional hockey team, the Monarchs. They also have a baseball team, the Fisher Cats. The New Hampshire International Speedway is right next door to us about 10 minutes from downtown and attracts 100,000 people for an event. It's a big stadium.
The Christa McAuliffe Planetarium is a state of the art planetarium named after the teacher of Concord High School who died in the Challenger Space Shuttle incident. There is the Canterbury Shaker Village which is probably the best example of Shaker history in the country. The museum of New Hampshire History is located in downtown Concord and is one of the more significant history museums in the region. There is a place called the Courier Museum of Art in Manchester. One of the interesting things about Concord is that it's got a concentration of art galleries, particularly in the downtown area, that offer a variety of local to national to international feature artists. Portsmouth is about 45 minutes to the east of here. It's a very historical seaport and a wonderful place for just browsing, walking around, and shopping. There are lots of good restaurants, music, and culture. The Strawberry Bank Museum is an entire historic neighborhood in Portsmouth with old buildings from well before the turn of the century.
