I would have to say that our biggest asset is the fact that we are located directly on the Columbia River. Columbia County has over 60 miles of river front property, so there are a lot of fishing and boating activities. Kayaking is one of our major attractions. We have a small, privately owned kayaking company with access to lot of the tributaries and waterways that are not accessible by motor race boats. It's a peaceful way to kayak, especially for beginners. We also have marinas where you can dock for free, and we have an island in the middle of the Columbia River that is city-owned. There's a park where you can camp and barbecue.
We have a great art gallery in downtown St. Helens, and the owner of that is actually the girl who is putting on the Riverside Art Festival next year, because she has the contacts there. We also have the Columbia County Art Skills which is not a museum. They don't display anything, but they are a part of the art community, so they put on events once in a while. Our Columbia Technology Center is a library/computer business center which usually has an art display that is changed out quarterly. We're a small town, so we use the outlets that we have available.
We have the Watts House Museum in Columbia City. It's hard to stop in St. Helens without stopping in Columbia City as well just because they're so close. I mean we are like within like a 10 mile stretch of highway. They have a couple of historic museums that are open to the public.
