I think trance abuse could have different meanings. For instance, which level of trance are you talking about? Some people get into drugs. They feel very good in trance and they just want to stay in a trance. They want to live their entire life in a hypnotic state. I think that is abuse, because the state of hypnosis is heightened awareness. When you do a trance, I think you are not in reality. You are more focused on one aspect, like a daydream. A lot of people wonder what it feels like when you are hypnotized. It feels like you're reading a great book. It feels like everything around you just fades and you are just focused on that one book. Or it feels like you are asleep. You are aware of everything around you. You can hear the water outside, yet you are not awake. You are waking up in the morning right before the alarm goes off and then you are kind of aware of everything in the room, yet you are still not awake. That's the way it feels when you are hypnotized.

I believe meditation is a form of hypnosis. I would say it is a form of a live hypnosis, which is normally called hypnotical. That is the lightest degree of hypnosis. I believe that's where we go, right before we drift off to sleep at night. It's a natural state.
