Travel Tips: A Guide To RV Living

Life in a recreational vehicle is easy. Tips to make your RV into a home. Information on space and time management.

Whether it's by choice, or if circumstances have forced you to have to adapt to living in a smaller space than you may be use to, the transition can be made a little easier with a few helpful tips. If you will be living in your RV on a permanent basis, or for blocks of time throughout the year, you probably don't want to feel like you on a camping trip every day. With some thought and a little planning, you can give your RV that comfortable, warm, homelike feeling. Here are a few ideas that might make this change a little smoother.

1. Has anyone ever accused you of being a "Pack Rat"? Are you one of those people who save everything? Is it had for you to part with those "never used", "hardly ever seen" treasures? This is probably where you are going to have to start. As hard as it may be, the first thing you will need to do is to decide what things are necessary and what you can live without. Renting a storage space could be an answer to actually parting with those things that you won't be using often. You will then still be able to get them when you have need for them. Even though they might not be considered necessary, keep a few things that will make you feel at home. It would be to your advantage if you could make your special, feel at home, items be small ones. Things like pictures of family, favorite candles, collectables, or whatever has special meaning to you would fall in this category.

2. Make the best possible use of the space that you do have. At first it may seem like there just isn't any place to put anything. Use your creativity. Start working with what you already have. Learning to put things inside of larger things is one way to maximize your available space. When you're filling storage areas, take the time to put everything in neatly. You'll be able to fit a lot more in a given area if you take some time to organize rather than just tossing and stuffing items in. You can create more areas for storage. Small shelves or caddies are available at most department stores that can be attached to walls in an attractive way. You'll be surprised at how a few small caddies can prevent clutter from taking over your bathroom sink. Hooks or over the door hangers can be put over, for instance your bathroom door, and clothes hung there, making more available closet space. Small hooks in the kitchen area to hang some of your utensils on will free up more drawer space. Take a good look around your RV, and see what you can come up with. You'll probably be surprised at the storage you will be able to create.

3. Remember that your home isn't always what is on the inside of your RV. Especially if you are going to be keeping your RV in a permanent space, or even if for a few months at a time, the outside area of you home is important also. This is one area that you can really make your place feel like home. Do you have a patio, lawn, or a small yard? There is so much that can be done to add your special touch around your RV. Add some flowers, either in planters, or planted in the ground if you have that available. This will add a lot of color and beauty to your living area. When and where the weather is favorable, some attractive patio type furniture will add not only that lived in appearance, but will give you extra space for relaxing and entertaining guests. If you're going to be mobile you would want to keep this somewhat simple, but you can still enjoy having that outdoor space available for you.

These are only a few tips on making your RV, into a comfortable, and cozy home. Don't forget to use your creativity, and give your RV that homey touch that is unique to you. When you give it your personal touch, it will then truly become your home.
