The state of Georgia is a place like no other, where visitors can find majestic, pine covered mountains, rolling fields, and even a beach. With the different terrain Georgia has to offer there is always something for couples to enjoy, whether it's a hike up a mountain to a scenic overlook in Blue Ridge or a walk hand in hand on the beach in Savannah.

Northern Georgia is known for beginning of the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The town of Blue Ridge in the northern part of the state offers a quaint downtown area with antique shops, galleries and restaurants. What could be more romantic than a train ride through the countryside? The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway travels from Blue Ridge to McCaysville, Georgia from March through December. The views change with the seasons and include natural wildflowers in the spring and red and gold foliage in the fall.

Lake Blue Ridge is one of Georgia's most beautiful lakes. Visitors can enjoy picnics, swimming boating, and hiking in the nearby Chattahoochee National Forest.

If one wants a bit more "city" fun, then Atlanta is only a few hours south of Blue Ridge. In the central part of the State Atlanta is one of the largest southern cities. Atlanta is home to Margaret Mitchell, author of "Gone with the Wind", and is the birthplace of Coca-Cola. Couples can take in a show at the historic Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta on famous Peachtree Street, see a concert at Phillips Arena or catch a ball game at Turner Field. Underground Atlanta offers the best in shopping and dining in the city or couples can dance the night away at one of the many nightclubs in the city.

Southwest of Atlanta is the small, historic town of Pine Mountain. Pine Mountain is best known as the location of Callaway Gardens, home of the Steeple Chase for the Arts, held in November each year. Callaway Gardens offers a hotel, villas and cottages for their guests, as well as a golf course, lake, and bike and nature trails. During the spring and summer visitors can walk or bike through hundreds of flowers and shrubs, including azaleas, wildflowers and holly. Callaway Gardens also offers a wedding chapel and is a well-known honeymoon location.

Just up the hill from Pine Mountain is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park. Couples can enjoy hiking or horseback riding on the trails, primitive camping or stay in one of the park's many cabins.

Only 18 miles north of Pine Mountain is picturesque Warm Springs, Georgia. Visitors will enjoy walking through the small town of quaint shops and restaurants. The Warm Springs Welcome Center is in the very location of the former train depot where President Franklin Delano Roosevelt would arrive on his many trips to the area. Less than two miles from Warm Springs is FDR's Little White House, his home while in the area and where he died in 1945.

South of Warm Springs is Columbus, Georgia, on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Couples can walk hand in hand or bike ride on the scenic riverwalk on the outskirts of the city. Enjoy the Columbus Museum, the second largest art museum in Georgia, and it's free. Enjoy a historic tour of the area featuring six historic house museums and many collections.

Georgia is known for agriculture such as pecans, cotton, and peaches. South Georgia is home to many pecan orchards that are open to the public. Pebble Hill Plantation is only five miles south of Thomasville, Georgia. Pebble Hill covers more than 3,000 acres and offers daily tours of the grand home that boasts more than 40 rooms.

While in southern Georgia if you wish to stay somewhere in style consider the Melhana Plantation, also near Thomasville. Melhana is a luxury property with cottages and suites available along with a fine dining restaurant offering southern cuisine.

While in Thomasville couples will enjoy many historic sites such as the 323-year-old great oak tree and the Hardy-Bryan house. Enjoy lemonade or tea at the 1884 Paxton House and hear a lecture on the collections shown inside. Men can enjoy a day of golf while their lady browses the Farmer's Market and the Thomasville Rose Garden.

Georgia not only offers mountainous terrain but also a lovely seashore. In Savannah, Georgia, couples can enjoy a seafood dinner while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Want to spend some time in the company of ghosts? Take the Ghosts of Savannah tour, featured on CNN Travel Guide and many other travel programs. Enjoy a romantic carriage ride through Savannah. If you want a ride open to the public enjoy a historical or spooks and specters tour. For the man wanting to make his lady's night even more special, private champagne tours or a midnight and roses tour is available from Savannah Carriage Tours.

If you wish to enjoy a day on the water consider a dolphin-watching trip. Feel like pampering yourself? Spend some time at the Savannah Day Spa and have a pedicure or massage. Visit Tybee Island for a day on the beach, swimming or sailing. See the lighthouse that was originally constructed in 1736 and enjoy another seafood feast when it's time for dinner.

Georgia offers many exciting and romantic places for couples, no matter what area of the state you wish to visit, be it mountains, plains, or the seashore. Many couples can enjoy the history and hospitality of one of the south's greatest states.
