A couple looking for a romantic getaway need look no further than Idaho. One of the best-kept secrets of the continental United States, Idaho offers seclusion, as well as a number of things to do.

Boise, Idaho’s capital, offers plenty of choices. There is an abundance of hotels to choose from, in many prices ranges. Additionally, Boise features an array of fine dining establishments. A delicious dinner, followed by a walk in the area of the capitol building can set the mood for romance. If you enjoy skiing, Boise is just a short drive from Bogus Basin, where couples can enjoy a ski vacation.

However, if you don’t mind a short drive from Boise, Wild Rose Manor in nearby Caldwell offers the perfect couples getaway. Caldwell is close enough to Boise so that visitors have easy access to the city, but far enough away that you can see the stars at night. Wild Rose Manor features themed suites, as well as an atmosphere of luxury: private Jacuzzi, candles and flowers in the room, wine and full breakfast.

Another themed hideaway is the Black Swan Inn in Pocatello. Pocatello is on the eastern side of the state (Boise is on the west). The Black Swan Inn is elegantly fitted up with affordable themed rooms. The ‘Under the Sea’ suite even boasts its own waterfall. The ‘Romeo and Juliet’ suite features a bed in a balcony above a heart-shaped Jacuzzi tub. There are a variety of other rooms to choose from as well. The Black Swan Inn has a variety of romantic movies on site that you are allowed to check out, free of charge, for your viewing pleasure.

Lava Hot Springs, located a little more than an hour from Pocatello, boasts healing and rejuvenating naturally heated water. Lava Hot Springs has small-town charm, perfect for couples who want to slow down and take it easy. Most lodgings are located within walking distance of dining, shopping and, of course, the hot pools. There are some very nice tennis courts nearby the downtown, for couples with an athletic bent.

Sun Valley is Idaho’s premier ski resort. Frequented by many celebrities, this resort offers an exciting mix of the rugged and the sophisticated. Stay in one of the many hotels, or a luxury condominium. There are many fine shops to browse, and romantic fine dining is readily available. After a day of skiing, nothing is more romantic than curling up beside a fire and enjoying the company of your loved one.

Not far from Sun Valley is the small town of Hailey. Hailey is the home to the Angel Factor. This opulent 1915 residence features spacious rooms decorated with fine antiques. Rooms also include fireplaces and large baths that comfortably fit two. A chef prepares breakfasts that can only be described as gourmet. During the summer months, Hailey offers a variety of beautiful day hikes. After a day of hiking, Angel Factor’s massage therapy sessions can help you relax.

For couples who enjoy pristine scenery, and definite seclusion, Idaho offers many choices. One of them is a log cabin retreat near Driggs. Driggs is located right below the Teton Mountain Range. Locanda di Fiori features private deck hot tubs (for romantic evenings under the stars). Yellowstone and Teton National Parks are nearby, offering plenty of outdoor recreation. In early July, couples can enjoy Driggs’ Mountain Arts Festival, featuring music, food, fun and a hot-air balloon race. Couples can even take a ride in a balloon, and enjoy the beautiful scenery from above.

Way up north, nestled in pine-covered mountains, are many beautiful lakes. A peaceful water getaway can be had in Coeur d’Alene, Pend Oreille or Priest Lake. While Priest Lake doesn’t have busy streets or an abundance of shopping, Grandview Resort can offer couples a little piece of heaven on earth. Boating during the summer months, snowmobiling during the winter. Rediscover nature comfortably as you rediscover each other.

Sunbeam is a small village outfitted in true Old West style. Stay in a log cabin or a rustic lodge. Nightly melodrama showings add to the Old West flavor. The nearby ghost-town of Custer is a fun place for couples to visit and take their time. Couples can pan for gold in the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River when they visit the old gold dredge. Red Fish Lake is a short drive from Sunbeam. Red Fish features a marina where you can rent canoes and paddle-boats for some ‘alone time’ on a lake surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Riggins is a small town located where the Little Salmon River meets up with the Main Salmon River. For adventurous couples, kayaking on the Salmon can provide quite the rush. Idaho offers many other waterways for river adventure, including the Snake and Clearwater rivers.

Camping, hiking and backpacking trails abound, as well as plenty of backcountry, as Idaho boasts the largest amount of Wilderness in the Continental U.S. Truly hardy lovers of the outdoors can find paradise together as they create their own romantic getaway.

When couples need a reprieve from the world, Idaho offers the perfect escape. There’s a romantic getaway for any type of couple waiting out west.
