Shanghai travel guide

Shanghai offers countless attractions for tourists to visit on their vacation.

There are many wonderful places to explore while visiting the city of Shanghai. The following are some notable attractions you should be sure to add to your must-see list.

Located in the western section of Shanghai is the Jade Buddha Temple. In the late 1800’s a temple was constructed to house two jade Buddha statues that had been brought from Burma by a monk. Unfortunately, this temple was destroyed during a revolution. However, the two statues were saved, and in 1928 the Jade Buddha Temple was built, and this is where the statues currently reside. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere makes this a truly enjoyable place to visit.

The Shanghai Museum has been located in the center of the People’s Plaza since 1996. Housing eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, some of the exceptional pieces found here include Chinese coins, calligraphy, paintings and ceramics.

If you are in the mood for some shopping, you need to check out Nanjing Road. Over six hundred stores can be found on the street, including famous names such as McDonald’s, Dunhill and Tiffany’s. There are also over one hundred shops offering local goods like embroidery and jade. If you enjoy city nightlife, come back at night. The open air bars and street musicians make for an entertaining evening out. Go down to Huai Hai Road in Shanghai for great shopping and people-watching. With over four hundred shops and restaurants, there is something that will appeal to everyone here.

The Yuyuan Garden is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Shanghai. Created in the 16th century, this remarkable garden contains over thirty separate sections. After you have finished touring the gardens, you will want to go to the Yuyuan Market. Over one hundred shops can be found here with a remarkable number of products to be purchased.

Sports fans will love Shanghai Stadium. A world-class hotel is located inside the stadium, as well as an aquatic center. In addition to the sports events hosted here, the stadium also plays host to the occasional concert.

If you are traveling with children, you should be sure to have a great day at Jin Jiang Land. There are eighteen different types of rides located here, offering fun for everyone in your family. Your family will also enjoy the circus and the many animals at the Shanghai Zoo. The Great World Entertainment Center is one of Shanghai’s oldest entertainment complexes. With activities such as shopping, games, local operas and many different places to eat, there is something for everyone here. At the People’s Square, have fun people-watching and spending the day with your family. You will find a lovely park, a subway station and an underground shopping mall here. It is a very family-friendly place to spend a day with your family.

The attractions mentioned here are just a sample of what the wonderful city of Shanghai has to offer. No matter where you decide to go there, you are in for a wonderful vacation.
