Planning a body boarding vacation takes a little bit of time and effort on your part, but once you’re out in the ocean, it will all have been worth it. If this is going to be your very first body boarding experience, you will have to put even more time into planning for your vacation. You will need to make sure you have all the essentials before you even set foot into the water. But, if you already have all the equipment you need, all you have to do is figure out what beach you would like to body board in!

Let’s discuss the basics of planning a body boarding vacation first, so you can decide if you have everything you’ll need. Body boarding equipment is sold over the internet, through catalogs and in sporting good/specialty stores. So, if you don’t already have your board, there are a few things you should know before you buy one.

Nose width should be considered when buying a board for your vacation. The nose width helps to determine just how fast or how slow you will be going in the water as well as how easily you’ll be able to maneuver around. A narrow nose width creates more speed and a wider nose is better for maneuvering around. So, figure out what is more important to you and choose accordingly.

Tail width is important for keeping you stable when you’re on your board. A wide tail will help you gain speed and a narrow tail enables you to move around easily. If you’re purchasing a board in a store, it’s a good idea to ask the salesperson for help if you’re not sure which type of width would work better for you.

When buying a board for your body boarding vacation, you’ll need to decide about the length as well. The length of your board should be determined by how tall you are. Taller riders go for longer boards, shorter riders choose shorter boards.

Another item you will need for your body boarding vacation is fin socks. Fin socks will keep your feet warm while you’re in the ocean and will help you fit into your body board better.

When planning a body boarding vacation, you can’t forget to purchase a leash for your board! There are many different types of leashes the include ones that connect to your wrist, arm and leg. Leashes are important because they ensure that you won’t loose your board if you were to fall off of it.

Since you’re going to be traveling with your board, make sure to pick up a board bag as well. A bag will help protect your board from all kinds of unforeseen damage and comes in a variety of prices ranges.

Don’t forget about clothing when planning a body boarding vacation! Some people simply wear shorts and a shirt but others purchase a wetsuit. If you’re going to be body boarding a lot, you might want to invest in a wetsuit, but if this is a once a year hobby, stick to either a one piece suit for girls or a pair of shorts for guys.

Now that you have all the essentials for planning a body boarding vacation, it’s time to choose your destination. While California, Florida and Australia rate high among body boarders, Hawaii definitely is the most popular of them all. So, check out Lanikai Beach, Oahu for some of the clearest, most beautiful waters you’ve ever seen. Water sports are huge here, so you body boarders will fit right in! Another fantastic beach in Hawaii is Hanalei Bay Beach, Kauai. It is the largest bay in Hawaii and the scenery will take your breath away. There isn’t a better spot to choose for your body boarding trip then this beach! So, pack up all your equipment, make reservations at a hotel and jump on a plane and get ready to have a great time body boarding.
