ACADIA

Honeymooners probably couldn’t find a more romantic place to camp than Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Pink granite boulders stretching down to the ocean, stunning views and beaches, and perfect sunrises and sunsets are some of the things you’ll find at Acadia. There are several camping sites there, and one is open year-round. In winter, camping in an RV would be a good idea, and in summer, sites can go fast. Reservations are necessary for the Isle au Haut and Blackwoods campgrounds and would be more suitable for a honeymoon than Seawall campground, where “first-come, first-served” is the rule.

CAPE COD

This area of Massachusetts has over 20 private campgrounds and is a great place for honeymooners to camp. There are things to do there in all seasons, whether you like sunbathing and swimming, boating, golf and tennis, or riding the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard. Boston is a short distance away by car for additional sightseeing, and there are lots of restaurants for romantic dinners and quaint little shops to find the perfect first-week anniversary gift in on the Cape.

DENALI

This breathtaking Alaskan park has five campgrounds; reservations are taken and would certainly be a good idea. There are many different activities available in the park for both summer and winter, such as hiking, fishing, nature walks, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and cross country skiing. A camera will be a necessity at this park, as you will see some of the most beautiful scenery in the US and lots of wildlife; you may have a moose in your honeymoon photos if you’re lucky.

FRANCONIA NOTCH

The White Mountains area of New Hampshire is a lovely place to enjoy a honeymoon trip. The Lafayette Campground at Franconia Notch State Park has almost 100 tent sites, and each site has a picnic table and fireplace; showers and a store are nearby. You will find beautiful, unusual spots everywhere in this park; Flume Gorge and The Basin are the most amazing sights, and secluded, romantic spots are abundant for quiet reflection on the beauty there. Cannon Mountain has a tram that will take you to the top of the mountain for spectacular views, and hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing are activities you can pursue at Franconia Notch.

YOSEMITE

If you want to be surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Yosemite is a good place to camp on your honeymoon. This California park has several campgrounds, but they are very popular, so a spot must be reserved months in advance. The park is open every day of the year and stays open 24 hours a day, so night adventures are even possible. Some of the things honeymooners can see at Yosemite include stunning waterfalls, huge groves of giant sequoias, beautiful meadows, mountains, and the lovely Merced River. Activities at the park are numerous, depending on the time of year visited, and include rock climbing, cross country skiing, rafting, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and nature walks.

VIRGIN ISLANDS

Cinnamon Bay Campground in the Virgin Islands National Park has sites for tent camping and cottages that you can rent and is open year-round. This is a great park for just relaxing on the beautiful beaches or engaging in more strenuous activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, or sea kayaking. You can visit the historic buildings along the Christiansted waterfront area, snorkel at the amazing Buck Island Reef, or take incredible photos of each other with always beautiful scenery in the background.

GRAND CANYON

The National Park Service operates campgrounds on both the North Rim and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. For inspiring awe, few parks can beat the Grand Canyon, and there are plenty of activities for honeymooners. Mule trips are available down to the river, and it’s also possible to hike down; these are two-day trips, as trying to hike down and back up in one day is too exerting and not advised. Helicopter tours, cycling, and horseback riding are also available, and white water rafting on the river can provide many thrills. For the ultimate Grand Canyon adventure camping honeymoon, book a rafting or motorized boat tour of the Colorado River; numerous companies will take you on a week long or two-week long trip down the river, stopping each night to camp under the stars. Some trips involve hiking also.

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS

There are more than 10 campgrounds in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including a horse camp. You won’t find electric hookups or showers in any of the park campgrounds, however, so private campgrounds would be a better bet if you are camping in a tent. The park is in a beautiful area of the US, with mountains, streams, and forests, lovely waterfalls, and brilliant fall foliage. White water rafting, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway will take you through some of the most unspoiled natural sites in the US.

TANZANIA & KENYA TENT SAFARIS

If an adventurous honeymoon is what you want, book a camping safari in Africa. Your days will be filled with trips to game reserves to see animals in the wild and the natural wonders of the Serengeti. Most camping packages to these destinations include tents, picnic lunches and other meals, a tour guide, park entrance fees, and transportation to the parks. Luxury tents, which are permanent structures, are also available for an increased price.

STANLEY, IDAHO

The Sawtooth National Recreational Area has some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the US. Located north of Sun Valley, Stanley is a small town with many activities that are fun for honeymooners, such as rafting, hiking, enjoying the natural hot springs found in abundance there, horseback riding, and more. Private outfitters will take you down the Salmon River on rafting, canoe, or kayaking trips to remote locations, and will provide camping gear, gourmet food, and expert guides. There are numerous outfitters who provide trips in Stanley.
