The Indian District, or Indian Quarter, is located in the center of Durban and is home to Jumah Mosque. Jumah Mosque is the largest mosque located in the Southern Hemisphere. There are also two markets located in this area of the city, the Oriental Bazaar and the Indian Market.
Umgeni River Bird Park, home to over 3,000 exotic and indigenous birds offers the tourist the opportunity to experience these beautiful and interesting birds. Daily shows are offered.
Dolphin Experience is an opportunity to intermingle with dolphins while riding a 6-meter rubber duck boat. This boat tour allows visitors to witness the dolphins in their own natural habitat and should not be missed by anyone with a love of dolphins or animals in general.
Golden Mile Beaches, with the Bay of Plenty, are home to Durban’s longest tradition, surfing. The youth of Durban keep this tradition alive and are often seen carrying on this tradition on Golden Mile Beaches. Surfing competitions and the annual Mr. Price Pro competition are also held here.
Fitzsimons Snake Park is another tourist attraction located in the Durban area. This park is home to hundreds of indigenous and exotic snakes housed in thermostatically controlled cages. Fitzsimons Snake Park offers the visitor the rare opportunity of witnessing the many habits of the indigenous snakes found in this region. Feeding occurs on weekends and is open to the public for viewing.
South Beach, located on the South side of the Golden Mile, is a quieter beach than North Beach. This is a wonderful place to take the family to enjoy a lazy afternoon on the beach. There are also playgrounds, trampolines and bikes for hire available here.
If the visitor to Durban is looking for a water park, then all they have to do is go to Waterworld. This water park offers water related rides, slides, pools and other get-wet experiences. The climate at Durban allows for year round water park enjoyment, so this park is open year round. This is the perfect place to visit when the beaches begin to get boring.
Skate Park, located in the Military Museum and right on the beachfront is the perfect place for the skate board enthusiast to visit when in Durban. The age range for this activity is from 6 to about 25 and everything the skater needs is available for sell at the skate shop here.
