The statistics show that the best type of therapy that works with bulimia would be cognitive behavior therapy. In cognitive behavior therapy, we try to help the woman understand her negative thought process, how that is causing damage and what she can do to turn those thoughts around. We teach her to become more positive in the way she is looking at herself, or be able to integrate things that she is learning about herself so she doesn't have to turn to the bulimia to handle her emotional pain. Then of course the behavioral aspect of bulimia is an addiction and working with them on fighting that addiction and teach them some other things that they can do to take the place of the binge-purge cycle. Cognitive behavioral therapy has been statistically researched to show that it is the most effective therapy to use with bulimia. The latest search out is that 72% of women with bulimia are also alcoholics or drug addicts. So, there is a high percentage of recurring addictions going on with bulimia.
