There are many different kinds of waxes. To make the best candles, it is always best to start with the wax that has been designed for that application. You can break them down into container candles, molded candles, and then what I call novelty candles. Novelty candles are the ones that have novelty designs like teddy bears or roses.

If you make container candles, you want to use the wax designed for this type of model. Generally, they have lower melting points, and are allowed to burn completely across when the candle is burning.

When you are making free standing or pillar candles you want higher melting point candles, so they stand free in a room during hot weather. They can warm up a little bit.

There is you a new real phenomena, which are natural waxes. And then, in that same family you have what are called sway waxes. They are very popular right now.

Q: What kind of wax do you like to work with?

Each ones has its advantages. All three are very good products. They are all suitable for different applications. One of the easiest and most consistent waxes is always bees wax. That's why we actually call it nature's gold. It's because of the properties that it has. It's a very good candle to make, and depending on what you want to go with, it has that natural smell to it. It is very pleasing; however, it is a bit pricey. It's usually about five or six times more expensive than paraffin wax.
