There is an interesting statistic. If everybody in the United States replaced their three most used bulbs with compact florescents, you could eliminate 22 power plants.
It's one of those no brainers, which is why here in New Hampshire and many states, the state has required the utility companies to have programs where they almost give away compact florescent bulbs. They are less than a dollar here in New Hampshire when they have the rebate program going. It's a requirement because they are telling the utilities that we don't want to keep building power plants when we don't have to. Yes, you lose a little bit of light, but what you gain is big. You're helping the environment and providing energy efficient costs.
If you have a bunch of them, you will notice your energy bills drop. If you use them often, your average life of those bulbs could be 5 years.
