Unique Valentine's Day Gifts

Your significant other is special, and you want to let him or her know it with a unique Valentine's gift!

Whether you've been married for thirty years or are a newlywed, choosing a unique Valentine's Day gift can be a daunting task. Although you probably have twenty newspaper circular ads offering various items for sale, none of them seem to strike you as unique. Your significant other is special, and you want to let him or her know that with a special gift!

The first step you should take is to think about what your sweetie likes. Is he a romantic? Does she love chocolate? What makes your loved one tick? Once you've figured this out, it is time to select a gift. Keep in mind that once you begin your search, you'll probably have lots of choices, and hence, lots of confusion. Don't worry. Just give your gift with all the love you have in your heart, and it is sure to be a hit!

It has often been said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. That may be true, but this saying doesn't only apply to a man. Women love food, too, and chocolate is generally a favorite. Typically, anything chocolate will work. If you love to dabble in the kitchen, you might want to try your hand at concocting a delicious chocolate confection, like a truffle, or you could hand-dip some luscious strawberries into a creamy chocolate sauce. If you're not that handy in the kitchen, however, don't despair. There are probably many shops in your area that will have plenty of delectable goods on hand for you to buy, or you can shop on the Internet. What's the best thing about giving food as a gift? Your lover will be sure to share his or her gift with you!

You just can't go wrong with jewelry, and it doesn't have to be expensive. Sterling silver is extremely popular right now, and it is also affordable. You could purchase matching bracelets, necklaces, and/or rings for you and your Valentine. You can personalize the jewelry by having messages, pet names, or other words engraved on the outside or the inside of the jewelry.

If clothing is your gift of choice, you might want to spice it up a little. If you are buying for a male, try some silky boxers. Give him orders that he is only allowed to wear them when he is with you! If you are buying for your lady, be sure you know her size and her preferences. Don't buy lacy things if she prefers silk! You can go the cute and funny route by having matching t-shirts made and personalized for you both.

If you really want to surprise your sweetheart, why not plan a romantic weekend getaway for the two of you? You do all the planning. You could even pack your partner a suitcase. Then, whisk him or her away for the weekend. Be sure you've taken care of everything in advance, such as hotel and dinner reservations, tickets to plays or sporting events, and anything else you plan to do.

If you don't have the time for a weekend getaway, how about a one-day vacation to a spa? You and your Valentine could spend the day together being pampered, or if you can't afford for you both to go, give a spa gift certificate as a great gift. If you are really on a tight budget, you can still plan a getaway in your own home. If you have children, send them to grandma's house for the night, light a fire, open a bottle of wine, put on some great music, and reminisce about how you first met. Let one thing lead to another for a great Valentine's Day!

Finally, you're never too old to make a handmade Valentine. Remember how you use to painstakingly decorate your Valentine cards? Well, you still can. Write a love poem, or give your loved one a stack of love notes with instructions to open one a day for the next week, month, or year. Create your own coupon book of love. Each coupon can be redeemed for a special treat, such as a back or foot rub or a hot bubble bath. You can find or make the perfect, unique Valentine gift, and your Valentine will be glad that you did!
