Overview
About Valentine Flowers for HimValentine's Day is celebrated by giving cards, candies or flowers to a loved one. Traditionally, flowers have been given to women by the men that loved them, but recently women have begun sending flowers to men. In fact, florists report that more and more flowers these days are being sent to men and Valentine's Day flowers are no exception. Purchasing flowers for a man on Valentine's Day can be an unexpected, but appreciated, way to tell him you love and care for him.
History
Valentine's day is celebrated on the 14th of February each year. Since the mid-nineteenth century, it has been observed as a celebration between loved ones. Traditionally, small gifts are exchanged between lovers and reveal their feeling for one another.
Function
Surveys show that men like to receive flowers nearly as much as women do. In fact, the Society of American Florists reports that 60 percent of men would enjoy receiving flowers on Valentine's Day. While not all of these men are willing to admit this fact in public, this trend is slowly changing. A study by Rutgers University researchers found that regardless of ethnicity, age or background, men that received flowers were more open socially. Men who received flowers smiled more often, stood closer to subjects and maintained direct eye contact than men who did not receive flowers.
Types
When purchasing Valentine's Day flowers for a man, it is important select flower types that are more masculine. There are many types of flowers that come in masculine flowers, such as orchids, tulips and sunflowers. The Society of American Florists found that men preferred vibrant colors such as reds and yellows. Large flowers with sharp lines, such as sunflowers, can be more masculine than dainty flowers such as lilies of the valley.
Considerations
Ask the florist to include a lot of greenery with the bouquet. Bouquets with more greenery tend to appear more masculine. Things like ferns, cattails and stems of tree leaves are good choices, even for Valentine's Day. Tropical flowers are also a good choice because they are vibrantly colored and unusual in appearance.
Potential
Because so many studies have shown that men love to receive flowers, do not wait until Valentine's day to surprise the man in your life. While some men would love the surprise of having flowers delivered to his place of work, other men may be embarrassed. If in doubt, have the flowers waiting for him at home, which may also save you a hefty flower delivery charge.
