Christmas is the time of year when family and friends come together to celebrate the holidays. Make your holidays memorable this year by service your favorite vegetarian dishes to your guests.

Meal planning can be so much fun, especially if it is for a holiday meal. When you are preparing a dinner for a special occasion you can make it as simple or as elaborate as you would like it. For an elaborate meal you will want to adorn your table with your best linens, your finest china, crystal and silver. Include a beautiful centerpiece in the middle of your table that goes along with your holiday decor.

Below you will find a sample vegetarian Christmas menu for you to consider serving to your guests.

As the guests start to arrive you will want to offer them an assortment of hors d'oeuvre. Your hors d'oeuvre can consist of a fresh vegetable crudity with assorted dips, a cheese board with an assortment of crackers, grilled stuffed portabella mushrooms or an assortment of fruits. This time gives everyone an opportunity to arrive and get settled and it gives everyone a chance to mingle and meet everyone.

In addition to their hors d'oeuvre, you will need to offer your guests some type of drink whether it be wine, punch, or iced tea. Have an assortment of drinks on hand.

After all of your guests have arrived and you are ready to start the meal, you can begin with an appetizer course. A good choice would be soup. Leek and potato soup would be an excellent choice for a vegetarian soup to serve. For those guests who don't want soup, you could offer them a fresh fruit cocktail.

A Greek Salad would be a good choice for the salad course. This salad is a combination of tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers, olives, and Feta cheese. This salad is topped with olive oil and oregano is sprinkled over the finished salad.

The main course would be a dish called Penne Sicilian. This is an excellent choice for a main course. This selection mixes tube-shaped pasta, broccoli florets, mushrooms and green beans that are covered in sauteed garlic and olive oil. This dish is topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and basil. If you want to add something to this dish, you can prepare baked potatoes to serve with the pasta dish.

After the dinner has been finished, it is time for dessert. In keeping with Christmas colors of red and green, a Red Velvet cake would be very tasty and appropriate to serve. Pecan pie is an excellent choice of pie for those who don't prefer cake.

While the dessert is being served, offer your guests a selection of gourmet teas or regular and decaffeinated coffee.

The secret to enjoying the meal with your guests is to plan ahead and prepare as much in advance as possible. By proper planning, you don't have to worry about last minute problems. Be sure to prepare for any guests who have special needs. You want your food to be delicious and your guests to leave feeling satisfied.
