Vodka mixed drink recipes

A collection of recipes for classic vodka mixed drinks or blended cocktails.

Good vodka has the distinction of being colorless, odorless and is virtually tasteless. When using vodka for mixed drinks, it is important to purchase the best quality vodka you can afford. The better the vodka, the better the drink. One myth about vodka is that it is made from potatoes. While some vodka is, as a general rule, vodka is made from whole grains.

Some simple recipes for individual bar drinks are included below. These recipes can be doubled, tripled or more for a crowd. For some of the recipes, a blender is recommended.

Monkey's Banana

1 ounce lime juice

1/2 small ripe banana

1 teaspoon honey

1 1/2 ounces vodka

Put all ingredients into a blender and whip till smooth. Serve with a lime slice on the rim of a martini glass.

Vodka Amaretto

1 ounce vodka

1 ounce amaretto liqueur

1/2 ounce lemon juice

4 ounces orange juice

Mix all ingredients in a blender and serve with an orange wedge.

The Famous Black Russian

1 1/2 ounce vodka

3/4 ounce Kahlua

Mix with cracked ice in a shaker or blender. Pour into a chilled Old Fashioned glass and serve.

The Morning After Bloody Mary

2 ounces vodka

4-6 ounces V-8 Cocktail juice

Several dashes of Tabasco sauce

1 celery stalk

Dash of pepper

Mix in a blender all ingredients except celery stalk. Pour into a large ice tea glass, over ice and use the celery stalk as a stir stick.

Off to the Races

1/1 ounce strawberry liqueur

1/2 ounce gold or dark rum

1 1/2 ounce vodka

1/2 ounce lime

1/2 teaspoon grenadine

Mix all in a blender with cracked ice. Serve in a martini glass with an orange slice.

Irish Butter Cream

3 ounces Irish Cream

1 1/2 ounce butterscotch schnapps

1 ounce vodka

Stir all ingredients together and pour over ice in an Old Fashioned glass.

Coffee Cooler

4 ounces iced coffee

1 ounce Kahlua

1 ounce heavy cream

1 scoop coffee flavored ice cream

1 ounce vodka

Mix all ingredients except ice cream with crushed ice in a blender. Pour into an Old Fashioned glass and top with ice cream scoop.

Flying Grasshopper

1/2 ounce each white and green crème de menthe

1 1/2 ounce vodka

Mix all together in a blender or shaker and serve in an Old Fashioned glass.



The Famous Fuzzy Navel

6 ounces orange juice

1/2 ounce peach schnapps

1 ounce vodka

Mix all with cracked ice in a blender. Serve, using an orange slice on the rim of the glass.

Witches Spell

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1/2 ounce brandy

1/2 ounce Benedictine

Mix all in a shaker with cracked ice and serve in a Martini glass.

The Infamous Harvey Wallbanger

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1/2 ounce Galliano

4 ounces orange juice

Pour orange juice and vodka over ice in a tall glass. Add enough Galliano on top to float.

Moscow Milk Toddy

1 1/2 ounce vodka

4 ounces milk

1/2 ounce grenadine

Powdered cinnamon

Mix everything except cinnamon in a shaker with cracked ice. Pour into a tall glass, sprinkle with cinnamon and serve.

Russian Rob Roy

1/2 ounces vodka

1/2 ounce dry vermouth

1/2 ounce scotch

Still all ingredients and serve in a martini glass. Add a twist of lemon as a garnish.

Vodka Screwdriver

1 1/2 ounces vodka

4 ounces orange juice

Pour vodka and orange juice over ice in and Old Fashioned glass. Add an orange slice for garnish.

The Classic Vodka Martini

2-3 ounces vodka

Dash of dry vermouth

Lemon peel or olives

Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add vodka and vermouth. Stir thoroughly until well mixed. Strain into a Martini glass. Add olives or lemon peel for garnish.

Vodka Sour

1 1/2 - 2 ounces vodka

3/4 ounce lemon juice

1 teaspoon sugar syrup

Lemon slice

Maraschino cherry

Mix all ingredients except lemon slice and cherry in a blender with cracked ice. Strain into a Whiskey Sour glass and add lemon slice and cherry for garnish.
