How to Wash Wooden Blinds

    Wooden blinds can be a beautiful addition to a home. They offer excellent privacy and protection from light, and can be energy-efficient. Keeping your wooden blinds clean can be a challenge, however, as they require special care and can be easily damaged.

    • Step 1

      Place an old sock on your hand and wipe each slat individually. You can also use any type of cloth, as long as it is dry.
    • Step 2

      Use a wood cleaner or oil soap on a dry cloth for an occasional deep clean.


    • Step 3

      Wipe all the slats, then open the blinds the other way and clean the other side.

    • Ingredients:
    • Sock
    • Oil soap
    • Tip: You can also use the duster attachment on your vacuum cleaner, or any kind of a duster, like a Swiffer.
    • Warning:
    • Do not use water or regular soap on wood blinds for any reason. This will cause the slats to warp and discolor. Also avoid regular household chemical cleaners, as these, too, will ruin the blinds.
