There really is no best exercise. An exercise regime should be determined by the expectant mom's activity level before getting pregnant. It will depend on her fitness level, her health history, any risk factors that she may have, and any type of exercise she really enjoys to do because, above all, she has to have fun doing it. If we pin it down to a few of the best exercises, walking would probably be the best one. Walking is great because it applies to any level of fitness, the beginner or the seasoned exerciser. It is the easiest way to get started because walking is a functional exercise, everybody walks. It is a great overall workout that can be done throughout the entire pregnancy and it will strengthen her heart and lungs while toning the lower body. There are other safe, comfortable and effective workouts that can also be done throughout the pregnancy including swimming, prenatal aquatics, shallow water aerobics and walking, weight training, and prenatal yoga. Each have great benefits for the pregnant mom.
