Step 1
Read the labels on your mineral makeup. Each manufacturer makes its mineral makeup differently, and while most do eliminate certain irritants, this may not be the case for all brands. Read the label for any special handling instructions.
-
Step 2
Understand that because mineral makeup contains no moisture, bacteria does not grow or thrive. Even with no preservatives, a high quality mineral makeup will remain stabilized without preservatives and can theoretically last indefinitely.
-
Step 3
Appreciate the fact that you can contaminate your makeup. Do not dip your brush into the main mineral container. If you transmit organic material from your face to the brush, and into the container, you may provide an opportunity for bacteria to grow in an environment that would normally be inhospitable. Before applying the makeup, pour a little into a clean, separate container for dipping the brush.
-
Step 4
Wipe your main container, and do not pour any used makeup back into the container. Secure the lid until you are ready for another application.
-
Step 5
Dispose of any makeup that changes color or takes on an odor.
