There are a lot of things we can do to baby proof our house, such as storing poisons and medications out of baby's reach. With medications you should buy medications with child-resistant packaging. Cleaning products and dangerous chemicals should be kept out of baby's reach by storing them in a higher cabinet or if stored in a lower cabinet it should be locked. A lot of toiletries, like nail polish remover, are also hazardous to babies.

Since babies can easily choke it should be made sure that there is nothing smaller than 1 1/2 inches in diameter around on the floor that they could get a hold of. It should be kept in mind that anything that's small enough to pass through a toilet holder hole should be kept out of baby's reach. Toys should also be looked at for loose parts that could break off which then the baby could proceed to put in its mouth. Also a baby should never be left alone with toys that are attached to ribbons or strings. Mobiles and other dangling objects should be well out of baby's reach too.

When painting things in your house be sure that the container is too small for baby's head to fit in and never use a bucket.

Make sure to plug outlets with child-resistant covers to prevent your baby from getting electricuted by sticking their fingers or objects into the electrical socket.

Install hardware-mounted safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs and in doorways of any room you don't want your baby to get into. Don't use pressure-mounted gates since these gates may not withstand a baby's weight.

Furniture should be looked at for any sharp edges on it that a baby could fall into and get hurt. Bookshelves should be bolted to the wall to prevent them from falling down on baby. Blind cords or any cord should be covered or tapped to the wall so baby is unable to get a hold of them since this can cause the cord to get tangled up around baby's neck.

When cooking on the stove make sure handles are turned inward so baby can't reach up and pull the pan down on them because this could result in some vary serious burns.

During bath time always make sure baby is always supervised since a baby can drown in as little as one inch of water. Also always check the temperture of the water by testing it with your own hand since too hot of water can burn a baby.

Parents should also consider safety issues right from the start by not buying soft bedding for the crib since this can increase the chance for suffocation. Only use a sheet with deep corner pockets other sheets can become undone which can cause baby to become rolled up in the sheet.

Following this information you will be able to baby proof your house which in turn will help keep your baby safe and healthy.
