Spring has a mixture of warm days and cold nights which of course is perfect for sugaring and the best time for white water canoeing and kayaking on the Housatonic and Farmington Rivers. Spring high temperatures range between 46 in March to 70 in May, and it gets down to around 30-50 at night. Summer is beautiful. It's when our pastoral countryside and cool mountain lakes really come alive. Litchfield Hills has been a resort area for more than a century with trees, refreshing breezes, cool days, pleasant evenings, lake swimming, picnicking, hiking, fishing, biking, and the Appalachian Trail that runs through this part of the state. The summer temperatures normally range between 80 and 63 at night. In mid-September, the days start getting cooler and crisp and are usually very clear and sunny. By the first weekend in October the temperatures usually range from the mid 70s in the day to the mid 40s at night. Winter can be cold. Highs are in the 30's or lower.
