Ten templates for fabulous wedding toasts.

At a wedding it is customary to toast the bride and groom. Most often, toasts are offered by the best man, maid of honor, and by the parents of the bride and groom.

To give a truly exceptional toast, it is important to plan what you are going to say ahead of time. Either write out your toast or at least use notes to make sure you remember your salient points. Practice giving your toast aloud, speaking to an audience if possible.

When planning your toast, remember the personalities of the bride and groom and the spirit of the occasion. Personalizing the toast makes it more moving and personal and shows how much you really care for the honorees. If you are unsure whether a topic is inappropriate for the wedding, it probably is. Jokes or funny anecdotes work well in toasts, as long as they are in good taste.

You may be introduced by an emcee, but if you are not it is wise to start the toast by introducing yourself and your relationship to the bride and groom.

1. Like all of you, I was so pleased when (bride's name) and (groom's name) found one another. Love like theirs is truly special and they clearly were meant for each other. Please join me in drinking to their continued joy and partnership.

3. It is said that a man is not truly whole until he is joined with a woman in love. I have known (groom's name) a long time and thought he was a whole man until I saw him with (bride's name). Then, I understood the meaning of love. Together, they are more than the sum of their parts and they will continue to grow in unity. I am proud to have seen them come together in their love and wish them a lifetime of happiness.
