We have five different outfits that do whale watching excursions. Unlike other areas, we have whales year round in Monterey. Other communities have the migration of California gray whales, which takes place between December and March, so they really only have whale watching in the winter. But we have whales throughout the year. We have blue whales in the summer and fall plus humpback whales and the gray whales of course. We always have dolphins. People can always go out and see some kind of wildlife - if the whales don't surface there will dolphins and birds and sea lions and otters.

The sea lions and otters are very cute to watch. They are always at the fishermen's wharf and in the spring they have their little pups on their stomachs and are cracking shells open on their chests. There is a lot of wildlife here in Monterey County. In the winter months we have migrating monarch butterflies that come into Pacific Grove. And we have more birds here than anywhere else in the country based on an annual census count. So, the whales are a huge thing here, but for anyone who is interested in viewing wildlife it's a great place to come.
