Wilmington, Delaware is located almost exactly halfway between New York City and Washington, D.C. New York is about a 2 hour drive, while Washington D.C. is about a 2 ½ hour drive. Wilmington is part of the greater Philadelphia area and is easily accessible from Interstate 95, the New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 295, Interstate 495, and by Amtrak and the Philadelphia International Airport, which is 20 minutes from downtown. The New Castle County Airport serves private planes, but there is no regularly scheduled public service. The Amtrak station in combination with the SEPTA regional rail system runs approximately 80 trains a day.


We are probably best known as the home of the DuPont Corporation. More than 60% of the Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here. In fact, this is the credit card capital of the United States because so many credit card banks have their headquarters here. This is a historic area. A former president of The Society of American Travel Writers has referred to this area as The Loire Valley of America. The Loire Valley in France has wonderful château's, museums, beautiful countrysides, and the Loire River. We have the Brandywine River plus the French heritage that was brought over by the DuPont Family in the early 1800s.




The climate in the greater Wilmington area is classified as moderate. The average temperature during the summer is 76 degrees. Snowfall is moderate and usually occurs during January, February, and March. Our annual rainfall is approximately 45 inches.
